Oct.22, 1932 game 2 BOWMANS EVEN SERIES BEATING MAPLE LEAFS INDIAN TEAM GIVES FINE DISPLAY IN SECOND GAME - SCORE IS 12-6 Buffalo Bowmans evened the professional lacrosse league championship playoff series with the Toronto Maple Leafs at Maple Leaf Gardens on Saturday night, doubling the score on the locals, 12 to 6. The visiters were much the better team on the night's play, and their clever passing plays gave the small crowd present plenty to enthuse over. Maple Leafs held the visitors well in check for the first two periods, the score at the halftime interval being 4-4, but the Indians ran wild in the third quarter, scoring four goals, while the locals were unable to secure a tally. In the final quarter the winners outclassed the Leafs four to two. McDONALD WELL CHECKED 'Bucko' McDonald, who went on a scoring rampage last week, was a marked man in Saturday evening's contest, and was unable to beat Garlow for a single goal. In fact, the Indians did not allow the locals much chance checking close throughout. The Maple Leafs were off colour, and failed to turn in the game expected of them. They missed many opportunities to score, and their handling of the ball was extrememly loose, in comparison to the Indians, whose exhibition was one of the cleverest seen here this season. Their short, snappy passing was a real treat, and their playes were carried out with clock-like precision, They have been well coached, and know exactly what to do with the ball once they get in. In the opening period the Leafs took a lead early when Core went through alone and was followed by Zimmer, who secured at centre and made a fine play after being sandwiched at the defense. Their lead was short-lived, however, 'Beef' Smith scoring on a pass from 'Scotty' Martin less than a minute later, and the same player repeating alone immediately afterward. Four penalties were handed out during the period, Core, Gibson and 'Beef' Smith for slashing and Scotty Martin for sandwiching Ty Silk. Don Smith and Scotty Martin put the visitors two up in the second period, while the locals lost innumerable chances by poor ball-handling. Anthony, Beattie, Zimmer and McDonald missed when well in. The Leafs were not to be denied, however, and Zimmer and Core scored for the local boys both on passes from 'Stew' Beattie. Silk and Syndey Smith served penalties for slashing. VANeVERY'S FINE GOAL The third period hard hardly commenced when Harry Green went through to score. Green passed to VanEvery for the next goal, which was cleverly executed. 'Piper' Bain went through three or four times, but failed to beat Garlow. Then Isaacs combined with Smith for Buffalo's third goal of the period, while Martin concluded the scoring by securing the ball at his own goal, and went through the entire Maple Leaf team to put the ball behind Bill McArthur. Green, H,Smith, Alvie Martin and Sydney Smith scored Bowman's goals in the final quarter, with Zimmer and Hollett tallying for the Leafs, the latter taking a pass from Beattie to beat Garlow. The game was cleanly played, there being not the slightest evidence of deliberate rough play. The checking was strenuous but fair, and the players kept up the fast pace which they set in the first period. The game failed to attract the patronage which it meritted, which was most unfortunate. Those who were there were treated to as fine an exhibition of ball handling as they have seen here in a long time.
